Lower Your Alexa Ranking

Dec 15, 2007 by

Using this method to lower your websites Alexa rank will not have any affect on your websites traffic. I don’t recommend doing this but who am I to tell you what to do with your website.

Alexa sucks and it has not affect on your websites performance but some people love to have a low Alexa ranking – so here is how you do it.

1. Go to Alexa and download their crappy tool bar. Now download Sparky and install both tool bars on your Firefox browser.

2. Find the 3 most clicked links on your website and stick this code in your HTML for each link.

Example: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?http://www.YOURURL.com

Now every time someone clicks on that link your Alexa rank will be pushed lower.

Don’t go crazy adding this code to all your pages internal links because you will jack up your indexed pages an so on.

3. Now if you want to turbo charge your Alexa ranking drop there are several ways to do this.

- Add the redirect code to forum post that you make.

- When you submit a post to a social bookmark website use the redirect code.

- Write an article and submit it to article directories with the redirect code in the resource box.

…and so on.

In reality this is really a big waste of time unless you are selling links on your website through a service that uses Alexa to determine how much you can charge.

Alexa.com is a subsidiary of Amazon.com. It is a website which provides information on traffic levels for websites. The Alexa rank is measured according to the amount of users who’ve visited a website with the Alexa toolbar installed. Alexa toolbar is an application developed by Alexa Internet. Its primary use is to measure website statistics. This toolbar collects as well as gives some valuable information. Once you install it, the Alexa toolbar monitors all your surfing and collects information about what domains you visit. They use this data to rank web sites. The traffic rank they assign to websites is based on 3 months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of other users and is a combined measure of page views and users. Webmasters, advertisers and ad networks use your blog’s Alexa rank as a gauge to determine the worth of a link on your website. If you depend on link or site selling as a form of monetization you’ll definitely want to increase your Alexa rank, because it’ll increase your bargaining power when it comes to ad pricing.

This is great information as I have not yet figured out if Alexa is worthwhile or not. When I was getting lots of comments on my site from other bloggers my alexa ranking was dropping, but wasn’t making any money. Now I am making money and not getting many comments, so my alexa rating is increasing.

  5. Thanks for sharing the information regarding Alexa.
